Struggles with debt (such as medical debt) can have many impacts on a person’s life. A recent survey indicates that struggles with medical debt are something that many people in the U.S. are facing.

The survey was conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Between January of 2011 and June of 2011, the CDC surveyed around 52,000 individuals. The survey included some questions regarding medical debt.

Reportedly, about one out of every five of the survey’s respondents said that their family was experiencing struggles regarding keeping up with medical bills. According to the Washington Post article which reported on this survey, the survey’s results indicated that respondents who were lower-income individuals were the ones who were most likely to have families that were struggling with medical debt.

It has also been reported that about one out of every ten of the survey’s respondents said that their family currently wasn’t in a position to pay any of the medical debt that their family held.

As the results of this survey illustrate, many consumers face struggles with medical debt. Sometimes individuals who are struggling with medical debt or other types of debt will consider filing for bankruptcy. There are many things that can play a role in whether or not bankruptcy is the right choice for an individual. Thus, if an individual is considering bankruptcy due to struggles with medical debt or other types of debt, he or she may wish to consider meeting with an attorney to discuss his or her situation.
