Debt relief can make you feel so much better and more in control of your life. It may be difficult to think about how much debt you’re in or how you’re going to handle it, but good debt relief options make a difference.

Debt relief can mean anything from paying down large bills by getting a second job to working on consolidating your debts. There are many avenues to eliminating debt, many of which are open to you.

What are some good ways to eliminate debt?

You can eliminate debt in many ways. You can opt to:

  • Consolidate your debts with a consolidation loan.
  • Get second job to make additional payments if possible.
  • Use the snowball method to pay your minimums on all but one debt that you pay as much as possible on.
  • Discuss bankruptcy with your attorney (usually Chapter 7 or 13 for consumers).
  • Negotiate with creditors for a lower interest rate, reduced payments or other ways to help you get ahead on your bill.
  • Discuss your options with your attorney.

All of these are potential options that you should consider. While not all of them are good for everyone, the truth is that getting out of debt doesn’t require bankruptcy alone. There are good ways to stop creditor harassment and to stop wage garnishment. Bankruptcy can be a solution, but you may want to talk to your attorney about alternatives, such as trying to consolidate your debts or getting on a repayment plan prior to bankruptcy.
